Excellent news! Dr. Louis Flamand, researcher at the ARThrite Centre, has received funding from the CIHR to study how the human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) might increase the risk of cancer.

About 1% of people are born with HHV-6 DNA in all of their cells — a condition known as hereHHV-6 — which can disrupt DNA repair and lead to mutations. 🧬🧬 Thanks to this funding, Dr. Flamand and his collaborators will study the viral protein IE1 in human cells to understand how it causes DNA damage and explore ways to prevent or treat associated cancers.

Congratulations to Dr. Flamand and his collaborators!
